What is pornography? What is artistic expression?
What is protected by the First Amendment? What did the
United States Supreme Court say when striking down the well-intentioned
Communications
Decency Act of 1996? How much money
are the adult site owners making? How much bandwidth is
devoted to pornographic web sites? To what extent are the
ISP's (Internet Service Providers) involved in pornography?
Gary Wolfstone does not
represent any clients who are doing business in pornography. Indeed, he plans to recommend
a model statute to Congress which would expose pornographers to strict liability
and subject them to elaborate reporting requirements.
Mr. Wolfstone believes that the advent of the world wide web
has, however, catapulted pornography from the status of "a cottage industry" to an international
and multi-billion dollar sector of our economy in the closing days of the Twentieth Century.
More significantly, Gary Wolfstone believes that the vast majority of the 60 million people who are
surfing the web are blissfully unaware of the scope of porn on the web!
Porn on the web is spreading like a cancer!
Porn on the web is an economic and social phenomenon
which is quickly converting the United States into
the global command center of electronic smut.
Mr. Wolfstone explains how and why today's society can combat
pornography by enacting legislation that will make the trial lawyer "a bounty hunter" in
the marketplace. Mr. Wolfstone is not squeamish
about doing battle with the pornographers, and he believes that
the pornographers are extremely vulnerable despite their prosperity.
What is the connection between
the banking problems encountered by adult web sites; the cut-throat competitive tactics
among adult site owners; and electronic commerce ("e-commerce") in general?
Mr. Wolfstone advocates that any lawyer with a
conscience should support the fundamental freedoms
which our founding fathers have guaranteed in our
Bill of Rights, but he hastens to add that we must, nonetheless, strike
a balance between protecting freedom of speech
and prosecuting pornography. Pornography can and should be prosecuted!
